Short Stories
Creative brief and workshops, 2020-2021
The Short Stories research programme, developed for NU architectuuratelier, opens up the opportunity for critical research projects of collective interest to take place within the context of the architecture office. Our initial process of designing the bespoke research programme invited discussion, written and visual contributions from members of the office through a series of interviews, creative briefs and workshop sessions.
Short Stories was the first culmination of a reflective workshop process. After a team bike tour across Flanders where the team visited numerous built projects of NU, each collaborator was invited to write and illustrate a postcard expressing their lasting impressions from the trip. These postcards were subsequently collected together and mailed out to everyone.
Later, each collaborator was invited to respond to a specific postcard in the form of a small sculpture. The sculptures were exhibited as part of an exhibition during which each collaborator was invited to introduce their making process and reflections to the rest of the team. What resulted was a rich dialogue about expansive process, individual curiosities and creative strength.
